This International Day is celebrated again on 11 December. Mountains took centre stage during 2021, highlighting their importance and proposing sustainable plans.
According to UN:
Sustainable tourism in mountains can help create additional and sustainable livelihood options and promote poverty alleviation and social inclusion, as well as landscape and biological diversity conservation. It is a way of preserving the natural, cultural and spiritual heritage, promoting local crafts and quality products, in addition to celebrating many traditional customs.
